At Cheetwood Primary School, we strongly believe that enrichment plays an important role in supporting children’s physical health, emotional well-being and confidence. It gives children opportunities to explore new interests, develop talents and experience the joy of learning in different ways.
Through sport, music, creative activities, clubs and shared celebrations, pupils learn to work together, express themselves and persevere when something feels challenging. Trying something new helps children recognise their strengths, take pride in their achievements and become more willing to have a go.
We want every child to feel included, valued and inspired by the opportunities available to them.
Enrichment will be an integral part of our curriculum and personal development offer. We will provide every child with a rich range of experiences which broaden horizons, develop interests and build confidence, skills, character and a sense of belonging.
Our enrichment offer will reflect our school vision and the nine characteristics we want our children to develop:
Making music and being active gives children different ways to express themselves, work with others and build confidence through practice.
Our music opportunities include guitar lessons and opportunities to play the ukulele and xylophone. Exploring rhythm, melody and musical patterns helps children develop listening skills, coordination and creativity. Learning an instrument encourages patience and perseverance, with every small step giving children something to feel proud of.
Whole-school singing sessions bring our school together through music. Children develop their voices, listen to one another and experience the enjoyment of making music as a group. Shared singing helps pupils build confidence in expressing themselves and strengthens their sense of belonging.
Taking part in sport supports children’s physical health and emotional well-being. It helps pupils develop teamwork, cooperation and resilience while enjoying being active.
We want children to try a wide range of activities, discover what they enjoy and develop positive habits that can continue beyond school.
Our clubs give children time to explore their interests, learn practical skills and build friendships. The enrichment offer includes a range of creative, active and thoughtful pursuits.
Exploring food, following recipes and developing practical skills, with opportunities to talk about healthy choices and work together.
Enjoying stories on screen, discussing characters and ideas, and listening respectfully to different viewpoints.
Using movement to express ideas, develop coordination and creativity, and build confidence through participation.
Developing balance, coordination and self-discipline while learning the importance of respect, focus and perseverance.
Building problem-solving and strategic thinking skills, taking turns, playing fairly and enjoying friendly challenges together.

Awareness events provide meaningful opportunities to explore respect, safety, reading and the communities we belong to. They help children connect their learning with the wider world. The calendar (Link at the bottom of the page) shows recurring awareness themes.
Our weekly assemblies bring children together to explore important ideas, celebrate our diverse community and reflect on how we treat one another. They support personal development and help pupils connect our school characteristics with everyday life.
Topics include Black History Month, road safety and Eid, alongside themes such as kindness, respect, inclusion and well-being.
We would be happy to help you find out more.
