EYFS Outcomes

Early Years Profile Assessment

In Reception, we keep a close eye on how children are growing and learning throughout the year. We do this through everyday observations, conversations, photos, work in books and the activities children take part in during play and lessons.

At the end of the Reception year, teachers complete the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile (EYFSP). This is a national assessment that gives an overall picture of each child’s development across all areas of learning, including communication and language, personal and social development, physical development, literacy and maths.

Children are assessed against the Early Learning Goals and are recorded as:

  • Emerging – working towards the expected level

  • Expected – working at the level typical for their age

Schools also look at how many children achieve a Good Level of Development (GLD). This means a child is at the expected level in the key areas of learning needed for a successful start in Year 1, including personal, social and emotional development, communication and language, physical development, literacy and maths.

We use this information carefully to:

  • celebrate children’s progress and achievements

  • identify any areas where extra support may be helpful

  • plan learning for the final term and transition into Year 1

  • share outcomes with parents and carers

Reception assessment information is shared with families at the end of the year and passed on to Year 1 teachers to support a smooth and positive transition.

Our aim is for every child to leave Reception feeling confident, independent and ready for the next stage of their learning.

EYFS Data 2024-2025

The information below shows the percentage of children who reached the expected level at the end of Reception. It compares outcomes nationally, across Manchester and at Cheetwood Primary School.

Prime Areas include communication and language, personal, social and emotional development, and physical development.
Specific Areas include literacy, maths, understanding the world and expressive arts and design.
GLD (Good Level of Development) shows the percentage of children who reached the expected level in the key areas needed for a strong start in Year 1.
All Goals shows the percentage of children who achieved the expected level across every area of learning.

Our outcomes show that children at Cheetwood are making strong progress across the Reception year. While each cohort is different, we use this information carefully to reflect on our provision, celebrate strengths and identify where we can continue to support and improve outcomes for all pupils.

We are proud of the progress our children make during their time in Early Years and continue to focus on ensuring every child feels confident, supported and ready for the move into Year 1.
