Update for Parents/Carers from Mrs Oxton, Headteacher

THE NATIONAL LOCKDOWN CONTINUES.

Read here in detail what you can and cannot do:

National Lockdown Guidance – Stay At Home

KEEPING TO THE RESTRICTIONS

I understand how hard it is for everyone. The days are very short, it gets dark early in the afternoons and there is very little to do for leisure, but we are in this together and we all have a part to play.

Sadly we have picked up from our weekly welfare calls that some pupils are in each other’s homes playing with those they do not live with and in some cases are even having overnight sleep overs.                THIS IS NOT ALLOWED!

We all have a responsibility to try to bring down transmission rates of the virus by strictly limiting what we do and who we mix with and I beseech you to keep to this, please. The quicker the transmission rates come down, the quicker restrictions will gradually start to ease and schools will reopen.

CONTINUING THE EDUCATION AT CHEETWOOD DURING LOCKDOWN

We now have a blended learning approach in place and I hope you are getting used to this and what is expected. Apart from a small number of identified pupils who are being provided with face to face learning in school, most of our pupils are at home and being provided with remote learning (which is the same as what those pupils in school are receiving). All the lessons we are providing, whether in school or remotely, reflect our normal curriculum at this time.

From Monday to Friday, for Y1 to Y6, work is uploaded to Google Classroom for pupils to complete online and for nursery and reception pupils, work is uploaded to Google Slides/Forms and a link is emailed to parents. There is a clear daily timetable for every class to show when lessons are scheduled to happen.

Each day, teachers and TAs will be checking the pupils’ work and providing feedback to them.

If parents have any issues with the home learning, please email your child’s teacher, they will be happy to help.

OUR REMOTE EDUCATION PROVISION

We are required to publish on our website, information for parents about our remote education provision.

The information has been uploaded to the Home Learning page of the website, but you can also read it here:

Cheetwood Primary School Remote Education Provision 2021

As we develop our remote education provision further, there may be occasions when pupils are required to join a “live” online lesson, class meeting or learning support session on Google Meet or Zoom. Such activities provide pupils with more personalised support and help to maintain relationships with teaching staff and their peers.

There are strict protocols in place for behaviour during such live online sessions. This information has been emailed to parents, but you can also read it here:

Cheetwood Protocols for parents and pupils using Google Meet and Zoom

WEEKLY WELFARE CALLING

Staff will continue to make weekly welfare calls to pupils and will also follow up with parents if work is not being completed. For privacy purposes, staff will withhold their mobile number, so if you receive a call showing this, please do answer, it is probably someone from school calling.

WHEN WILL SCHOOL OPEN FULLY TO ALL PUPILS?

I do not know when school will open fully and it will be the government who provides us with the guidance about when exactly we can do that.

Gavin Williamson, Secretary of State for Education, has announced everyone will be given two weeks’ advanced notice before schools open fully again (although that could change….) but that is all I know at the moment. I do not have an exact date.

In the meantime, as difficult as it might be, we are faced with no alternative but to continue to abide by the restrictions that lockdown places on us.

We are always here to help and advise, so urge you to email us on admin@cheetwood.manchester.sch.uk if you need support with anything.
